Day 7: ‘Laying the Foundations’
The first week of destruction is out of the way and already the office looks very different. This week the team have started work on creating supports within the floor of the hall which will carry the weight of the new boardroom. An ever-growing business means increasing amounts of paper and as a law firm, we are required to store certain documents for 6+ years. I realised quite quickly that we needed to create some additional storage space in Grange and liaised with Phil at Bridgewater about how this could be achieved. A rough calculation told us that we would need to support around 10 tonnes of weight above the new boardroom in a mezzanine-style storage area and the steelwork has now been put in place under the floor to support this.
Meanwhile, internal stud walls have come down and made way for a new entrance into what will be the new reception area. Anyone who has visited the office previously will know that there was a barricade of doors and a long dreary corridor before reaching reception and we hope that the new area will be more open and inviting.
